Buy a local SIM on arrival at Entebbe. MTN and Airtel offer affordable data packages, and mobile money on the same line is widely used for payments across Uganda, including small shops and taxis.

Avoid rush hours for airport runs. Leaving for Entebbe early in the morning or late at night can save an hour or more, and the hotel can advise on the best timing for your flight.

One thing about the lake: visit Ggaba landing site early in the morning when fishermen bring in the catch. The market is at its liveliest, and the light over Lake Victoria is beautiful before the heat.

Order luwombo in advance if you want to try it properly. The dish takes hours to steam in banana leaves, and good restaurants prepare it on request. Ask the hotel which local kitchen does it best.

Keep some Ugandan shillings in small notes. Street vendors, boda bodas and markets rarely accept cards, and mobile money needs a local SIM. ATMs are widely available in shopping centres.

Book the spa and sauna for the evening after a day in the city. Kampala's dust and traffic are tiring, and ending the day with steam, a swim and a massage at the hotel is a comfort few other properties at this price can offer.
